|  EUROPEAN HUB The last 20 years have seen major national and local investments which have largely benefited Nantes. The number 1 airport of Western France 2,4 million passenger travel every year through the international airport Nantes Atlantique. 21 international destinations are served, and 15 in France. European capitals are less than 3 hours away. Low cost companies have made Nantes one of their favourite destinations, ensuring the continuous development of their international links. A new airport platform will be brought into service by 2012 to cope with the increase in air traffic. It will have the potential to handle 4 to 5 million passengers within its first years of operation. It is the only such project in France outside of the Paris area for the coming decade. Located 25 kilometers (15 miles) to the North of Nantes, it will serve the entire Western France area. Go faster with TGV ! The advent of the "very high speed" train running at 300 km/h (187 mph), has had a major impact on the region. The TGV links Nantes in record time to Paris in 2 hours (23 times daily and at rush hour, every half hour), Lyon and Strasbourg. Lille can be reached in 3 ¾ h (connections to Brussels and London). The western motorway node A major node in the Atlantic motorway network, Nantes is linked via motorway to Paris (3 hours 15 away), Benelux, and Spain via Bordeaux (3hours away). The largest harbor on the European Atlantic seaboard With its central location, Nantes Saint-Nazaire is the largest harbor on the Atlantic seaboard with an annual volume of 35 million tons and over 130 connections all around the world. The port is planning to play an essential role in the European highways of the sea project, in its sector around the Bay of Biscay. |
